1. Preparation
Clean the Surface: Wipe away dirt and dust with a damp cloth. For leather, use a leather preparer and deglazer to remove any existing finishes or coatings, ensuring proper paint adhesion.
Mask Off Areas: Apply masking tape to sections you don’t want painted. This creates clean lines and prevents paint from bleeding onto unwanted areas.
2. Mixing the Paint
Shake Thoroughly: Shake the paint bottle well to ensure the pigment is evenly mixed.
Custom Colors: If a specific shade is required, mix different Angelus paints in a mixing cup or palette until the desired color is achieved.
3. Applying the Paint
First Coat: Apply a thin, even layer with a brush. Avoid thick applications, which can lead to cracking.
Drying Time: Allow each coat to dry fully (about 15–30 minutes) before applying the next.
Additional Coats: Continue applying thin layers until the desired opacity is reached—typically 2–3 coats.
Detail Work: Use fine brushes for intricate areas. If mistakes occur, clean them immediately with a cotton swab while the paint is still wet.
4. Drying and Curing
Final Dry: Let the painted item dry undisturbed for at least 24 hours to ensure the paint is fully cured and durable.
5. Sealing (Optional)
Acrylic Finisher: For added protection and to achieve a matte or glossy finish, apply an Angelus acrylic finisher. This is especially recommended for items subject to frequent use.
Application: Apply evenly with a clean brush or sponge and allow to dry completely.
Tips
Test the paint on a small, hidden section before starting the main project.
Build up coverage gradually for a smooth, even finish.
Avoid using heat to speed up drying, as it can cause cracking.
